Functional Medicine for Women’s Health

Woman hands on hipsFunctional medicine is a science-based, evidence-based medical practice that incorporates both conventional and an integrative, holistic approach that looks at the whole person. While precision medicine protocols may be used, like lab work, medications as needed, diagnoses, etc, what sets functional medicine apart is our determination to find the root cause of your illness.

Functional medicine doesn’t just cover up the symptoms. Michele likes to use the analogy of an iceberg, where the peak represents the visible symptoms, and the part underneath the water is what’s causing the symptoms. That’s where functional medicine places its emphasis.

It All Starts With Food

Nutrition is where functional medicine starts. Michele goes through everything she can to find out if there’s something in your diet that’s causing the symptoms. Once she finds your triggers—gluten, soy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, etc.—she tweaks your diet throughout the course of your treatment to find the right balance for you.

Digging Deep for Answers

Laboratory results are vital in determining a diagnosis for our clients. The main lab we use is Quest Diagnostics. For most clients, Michele is able to order very thorough panels using their health insurance plan to lower their cost. If specialty testing is needed, she uses labs like Genova Diagnostics, Rupa Health, and others. These tests are not covered by insurance.

Personalized Care for You

Michele understands what her clients are going through, because she has experienced many of the same issues. Her approach is more relaxed and relatable, woman to woman. And with over 27 years of experience as a whole, she is highly skilled at what she does.
